ISA finished!

So my character is finaly finished!
The last chapter consisted of retopolising, uv-ing, baking textures and assembling the final model.

The retopo i did in a program called TopoGun. It basicaly lets you draw over the sculpt and in this way create a new mesh wich will be your final model.

After the new meshes are created all the stuff goes to UV-layout for uv-ing.

Then everything goes back to TopoGun for texture-baking. I must honestly say i'm really impressed by the quality of the maps TopoGun creates. Also the speed is impressive! A 2K normal and colormap with sampling on hign in half a minute!

So now i have al the pieces i need. I used Photoshop to combine al the textures in 1 colormap and 1 normalmap (also created a specular map out of the colormap).

And finaly everthing comes together in Maya. The meshes are combined to one character with the textures on in. So i present to you: my newest zbrush character ^^

Click for a somewhat bigger size.
And go to http://rick.joberi.nl/afbeeldingen/poster.jpg for full resolution. (The details come out way better on this size! 6mb though...)

And finaly some specs:
Polycount of 6693 tris for the main character, and 768 for the sword making  7461 tris total.
3 2k textures for the character and 2 1k textures for the sword.
Software used: Zbrush, Maya, TopoGun, UV-Layout, Photoshop
Took about 3 weeks full-time to make.

Hope you like it ^^

ISA work in progress

So here is some work in progress on my ISA (only one and a half year late :p ) wich i plan to finish before i go on holiday next week. So far i've completed the sculpting and texturing. Below are some images showing the progress.

First off the design:

I did not make the design! I found it on the internet and it's made by somebody going by the name of ~ultimate-super-mario. I really like the design so that's why i choose it for my ISA assignment.

Started with z-spheres...

...and turned it into a pink-power-ranger!

Starting to sculpt the first major forms

In maya i made some basic shapes for most of the attributes.

Also, a sword!

Most of the sculpting done.

And finaly the pants.

Start of the texturing.

And the final sculpt!

Lessons learned so far:
-loose pants are horrible to sculpt (though i'm quitte proud of the result)
-arms in this position are nog so handy for animation later on. Not gonna do that again. Next time will be t-pose
-texturing in zbrush is not to bad actually. I really love the Spotlight function wich let you use pictures you can overpaint on your model.

So next up will be retopo. I'm going to use Topogun. I've never used it before so fingers crossed. Also, the sculpt has 14.111 mil. points and those are going to be reduced to around 10.000 tris.

Hopefully tomorrow i'll be able to finish the final model including the textures ^^

Here are some images showing a bit of the animation and the procces:

This project took about 5 months and I did everything myself. I learned so much from this! Let me know what you think =)

Also, I'll try and update my blog more frequent from now on ^^
